BIOGRAPHY
Kalpesh Lathigra
British, b. London 1971
Alienated and forgotten communities are the subjects of much of Kalpesh Lathigra's work. His intimate photographs of the "Brides of Krishna", looking at the lives of widows in India reflect the position of these women in 21st century India. The essay was awarded both the W Eugene Smith and Winston Churchill Fellowships in 2004/2005 and is part of the "Another Asia" exhibition by Noorderlicht in 2006
In 'Lost in the Wilderness" , Kalpesh looks at the Lakota Sioux native American tribe in South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation, away from the cliches of the Wild West and Hollywood.
Transmission deals with the issue surrounding the HIV/AIDS issues in India. Using portraiture and landscapes too capture the emotional enviroment that surrounds the epidemic.
State of Grace is a work in progress which will evolve over the Obama Presidency.
Kalpesh is regularly commissioned to shot portraits of various actors, authors, film directors.
